Flushing Rotary Honors Diana Aboukarroum as March Student of the Month
Flushing High School senior Diana Aboukarroum has been named the Flushing Rotary Student of the Month for March, recognizing her outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and commitment to service.
Diana has distinguished herself in the classroom with an impressive 3.963 GPA and will graduate this spring with high honors. In addition to her rigorous high school coursework, she has taken advantage of dual enrollment opportunities through Mott Community College, where she will complete five college courses prior to graduation, demonstrating both her ambition and strong work ethic.
The daughter of Zeke and Karen Aboukarroum, Diana comes from a proud Raider family. Her siblings, Brandon, a 2022 graduate, and Kayla, a 2017 graduate, are also Flushing High School alumni.
Beyond academics, Diana is deeply involved in school life. She is an active member of numerous organizations, including Rotary Interact Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, International Club, Pay It Forward, Student Leadership Organization, DECA, and Varsity Club. Her leadership and involvement reflect a strong commitment to both her school and community.
Diana’s dedication to service is equally impressive. She has volunteered her time through a variety of initiatives such as SMORES, Candlewalk, blanket making for Hurley, Adopt A Class at Seymour Elementary, the MLK Day of Service, Adopt a Highway, the Senior Center, and events at Elms Elementary. Through these experiences, she has consistently demonstrated compassion and a willingness to give back.
Outside of school, Diana has worked for the past three years at Damouni Farms and Orchard, balancing her job alongside her academic and extracurricular commitments. She is also a four year varsity athlete, competing in track as a hurdler and in powerlifting. Notably, she broke the school record in the squat last year, an accomplishment she counts among her favorite high school memories.
Diana’s interests include running, hiking, traveling, watching football and hockey, and spending time with friends. She recently returned from a trip to Lebanon, further reflecting her curiosity and appreciation for new experiences. Looking ahead, she hopes to hike in both the Grand Canyon and Colorado.
One of her most memorable experiences at Flushing High School was helping organize and lead the senior Homecoming assembly this year, an event that showcased her leadership and school spirit.
Diana credits much of her academic success to her favorite teacher, Amanda Fairchild, who she had for two consecutive years. “I really appreciated her teaching style,” Diana shared. “I always felt comfortable asking questions, and she created a welcoming classroom environment.”
After graduation, Diana plans to attend Wayne State University, where she has been accepted to study law, with an interest in corporate or international law.
With her strong academic record, leadership experience, and dedication to service, Diana Aboukarroum exemplifies the qualities celebrated by the Flushing Rotary Student of the Month program.
